One line stood out to me from a story on NPR about GOP attempts to curtail and, in some circumstances, do away with voting rights for American who live abroad:
“In its Arizona lawsuit, the RNC claims that allowing overseas non-resident voters to cast ballots ‘inflicts a competitive injury’ on both the state and national GOP by adding to the state’s voter rolls ‘individuals who are disproportionately non-Republican in their partisan affiliations.'”
The GOP is saying they want to take away people’s right to vote because they tend to vote for Democrats.
They wrote that down, in a legal document.
Let’s all remember how precedents work. If judges decide it’s okay to take away the right to vote if you’re a Democrat, they could use that same argument to take away minority votes, student votes, educated people’s votes, single women’s votes…
All Americans should have the right to vote. I can’t believe I have to say that.
